The Corner Pub

In rural environments there can be wonderful gems and when you come upon them you immediately know you have found potential.  That is Potential with a capital P.

The current trend for pubs to create an environment that encourages patrons to stay longer by having games available was evident during our drive around the facility. Unfortunately, the weather and timing were not conducive to cornhole or horseshoes.

The staff were friendly and engaging.  The waitress had a high-ranking level in the Joie de vivre category.  She was knowledgeable and had good sales technique.  Great timing when visiting the table.

The food turned out to be an undiscovered gem.  Although it was contemporary pub fare, it was excellent.  Variations on standard themes, but the quality was all fresh and very flavorful.  A note was the that the dipping sauces were homemade.  The horseradish ranch was extremely good.

The beer selection was decent.  Twelves taps of most types of beer.  Porter, stout, brown, IPA, etc.  There were not following the trend towards edgy flavors, but rather known good selections.

Appetizers in pub fare usually scale the gamut from the most generic entries to some items that touch the sublime.  It's rare that we find pickled eggs and what's more pickled eggs that had been given a subtle flavor boost with turmeric or curry.  Unfortunately, this may have been an additional cause of the later, caustic flatulence.

Our ability to get home was eased by the addition of our long-suffering designated driver.  I am still not sure why she volunteers so frequently.  Surely a masochist.  The drive home was twenty minutes, which means we sobered up enough to consider another drink at home.

The day after presented us with some surprises.  In occasions like this we have to check if there were other factors involved, but the copious amounts of flatulence really pointed to either a very high level of garlic or some other natural biologic.

Still worth it.

I would recommend going a second and third time to confirm quality and consistency over a longer period.

Score: 3 b's

It was brought to my attention from my culinary cohort that I missed a few key features of the evening's meal.  This entry was updated 3-23-22
